A new survey has found that a quarter of people infected with COVID-19 suffer hair loss within six months, with women particularly at risk from this symptom.
Reported in medical journal The Lancet a study was undertaken in 165 patients in Wuhan, China with 359 reporting hair loss within 6 months of their infection, essentially being COVID hair loss. Other primary symptoms included fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness and joint pain.
In a follow up survey 3 months after hospital discharge the researchers discovered that “physical decline or fatigue, post-activity polypnea (rapid breathing or panting), and alopecia were more common in women than in men”.
