McIntyres is celebrating the success of one of its brightest young talents, as stylist Gemma Waters officially completes her SQA Level 2 in Hairdressing. The achievement marks a milestone in a journey that began when she first joined the hair industry at sixteen, training from the ground up through the McIntyres Academy programme and shaping her craft under the guidance of Dundee’s most award-winning salon team.
Gemma’s progression has been anything but ordinary. She earned a place on the ghd Style Squad, a two-year mentorship scheme reserved for emerging talent across the UK. Travelling to London for advanced training, working alongside industry leaders and embracing the intensity of high-level creative work has, in her words, changed everything.
Gemma also reached the finals of the 2025 TrendVision Awards, competing in the Xposure Creative Cut & Colour category, an achievement she describes as one of the most inspiring moments of her young career.
Inside the salon, Gemma brings the same energy to every client. She loves boldness, statement cuts, vibrant colours, creative finishes, and approaches every appointment as a chance to build confidence and celebrate individuality.
Salon Owner Kay McIntyre shared her own pride in Gemma’s development, noting that, “With strengths in hair-ups, colour and signature bouncy finishes, Gemma’s technical ability is clear. A member of the ghd Style Squad and already a competition success, she’s rapidly becoming a stylist to keep an eye on.”
