Some amazing news reached us this week that Dundee’s West End has been named the coolest neighbourhood in the UK by The Sunday Times.
With our Perth Road salon sitting at the heart of the area, we’re delighted to see this recognition for an area that’s always been very special to the mcIntyres story. Opening in 1996 at 121 Perth Road it was our first salon and was the launch pad to Kay and her team’s award winning presence on the hairdressing scene.
Commenting on the news, Kay said “I’m chuffed that Perth Road has been voted one of the best postcode areas to live in by The Sunday Times. mcIntyres Hairdressing has proudly been part of this community for over 30 years and I’ve lived here all that time, so I’ve seen exactly why it’s so special.” She continued, “The area thrives with independent shops, cafes and creative spaces, the University brings energy and innovation, and events like WestFest really bring the community together. It’s clean, vibrant, well connected, and full of character the perfect place to live, work and visit.”
As Kay noted, Dundee’s West End is a vibrant, creative area due to it’s unique mix of people and activities. It has a large student population with Dundee University and Duncan of Jordanstone art school situated on Perth Road which is the focus of the area. There are a number of wonderful independent shops, some amazing pubs and restaurants, and the local community responsible for events like WestFest, the free event held on Magdalen Green each year.
Of course, in recent years Dundee has enjoyed the spotlight with the establishment of the V&A Design museum and has the Eden Project to look forward to with it’s site on East Dock Street confirmed.
