mcIntyres is delighted to have been featured in The Herald newspaper at the weekend, shining a light on the salon’s 25-year journey and the role it has played in Dundee’s transformation.
Casting back to the late 1990s, the article describes a very different Dundee when Union Street was far from the vibrant link between the city centre, train station and waterfront that it is today. When John and Kay made the decision to invest heavily in a prominent corner building there, it was a bold move. In an industry where businesses can come and go, mcIntyres built a loyal client base and a reputation that extends well beyond the city, with Kay’s 3 Hairdresser of the Year awards amongst a whole host of awards earned across the whole team.
From the early days on Perth Road to the flagship Union Street salon, the business remains part of Dundee’s wider renewal. Regeneration isn’t only driven by landmark buildings and large-scale investment, but also by independent businesses willing to take a chance and raise standards.
For us, Union Street was never just a location. It was a statement of intent. And 25 years on, as Dundee continues to evolve, we’re still here investing, training, welcoming clients through our doors, and still believing in the city we call home.
